Get your own “Beach House Feeling” Part 2 {Driftwood Inspiration * Treibholz}

Driftwood-Treibholz-DIY-1

Buongiorno – a happy hello to everyone!

Last time I showed you some of my “Coastal Decoration” Ideas to create a fantastic BeachHouse Feeling at home – and this time we will go on with part 2: Decoration with driftwood! I really like these strange pieces of wood … you will never find two pieces that are the same … you will never know where this wood comes from and so every tiny little piece has a story to tell …

Do you know what is the best thing about driftwood? You just need some glue (I use the hot one), cord and a drill and you can create thousands of things out of this wood!

By the way … you do not need to live at the seaside to find driftwood! You can also find it along rivers or you can even buy it for little money on ebay!
***

The first idea I want to show you, is our Driftwood Ball. I took the smallest pieces and some glue and with a little bit of patience this cute little ball comes into being!
***

Driftwood-Treibholz-DIY-Ball
Another great idea is to create Wind Chimes out of the driftwood! We added some seashells and now they are our favorite decoration for the garden and the balcony!
***

Driftwood-Treibholz-DIY-Windspiel
Your want more? Here we go with a very cute idea: a Vase for flowers! I used two little bottles and fixed them with a nautical looking cord on a flat piece of driftwood. Another cord to hang it up and it is done!
***

Driftwood-Treibholz-DIY-Vase-Flowers

The last driftwood idea I want to show you is my favorite one: it is our Driftwood Lamp! It basically is one of the big swedish furniture shop and we added some beautiful pieces of driftwood and pumice to give it a coastal look!
***

Happy Easter Inspiration & Decoration {Frohe Ostern}

Happy-Easter-Magnolia-Spring

Hello hello, a happy buongiorno to all of you!

I still cannot believe it, but March is already over and we are in between the Easter Holidays! There were so many things to do during the last 2 weeks that I even did not had the time to decorate our home … but finally today I brought some Easter and spring-feeling in the house – better late than never ;)
***

Spring-Magnolia

Before showing you my Easter decoration, I will show you some awesome ideas I found on other blogs – I just did not have the time to realize some of them this year, but next year there will not be any excuse! They could even be last-minute ideas, so maybe you still have some freetime today and want to be creative? Let’s go!
***

The first one I really love is this origami style bunny wallart from the blog “So leb ich” – easy, fast and really cute, isn’t it? The second one is a beautiful decoration that I immagine as center piece on the table – I really love the colors and the mix of eggs and plants! This great idea is from the blog “Schön und Fein”.
***

Of course, coloured Easter eggs cannot be missed during these days and the following 3 ideas are simply gorgeous!

Glitter-Easter-Eggs-Sharpie-Dots-white

The first idea from here is so easy – just take some easter stickers and a pen and create fantastic Easter eggs! Also the second one is more than fast – get the tutorial for the glitter eggs right here. The last Easter egg inspiration takes a little more time but the result is awesome: I love the natural touch of these DIY eggs as it seems quite natural – have a look right here to get all information!

I am a little bit sad that I did not have the time to realize some of these ideas … and there is so much more great stuff around, if you want, just have a look on my Spring&Easter Pinterest-Board, to get even more inspired!

Buongiorno a tutti, a happy hello to all of you!

I don’t know if it is only me, but in January I sometimes feel some kind of “emptiness” in my head regarding home decoration, fashion and so on … Christmas passed by, it is still wintertime but everybody wants the summer to come. I do not want to have snowflakes all over anymore, but it is still too early to exchange them with starfish…

Do you know what I do in these moments?! I just don’t mind that it is still January and bring some color in my life – preferably on my nails!

Who knows me knows also that I am a nail polish junkie! I love to change the color of my nails every 2-3 days and the period when I could not use bright colors on my nails while I was working was really hard! I even have a little obsession: The nail polish has to be the same on fingers and toes and it has to match with the color of my clothes. I am able to re-paint my nails just because the color does not fit with the dress I want to wear! But let’s not talk too much about my obessions… ;)

What I want to recommend to you today, is the blog and the YouTube Channel of Jenny Fox, known as MissJenFabulous. She does some of the best and easiest nail art tutorials I’ve ever seen and nearly all of her creations can also be used if your nails are quite short!

These nail designs just scream “SUMMER & HAPPINESS”, don’t they?!

Elegant Gift Wrapping for Wedding & Christening {Hochzeit und Taufe}

A happy hello to all of you – Buongiorno a tutti!

Gift-Wrapping-Wedding-flowers-diamonds-2

I love making gifts and I love to wrap them, but sometimes you do not only need a creative idea to wrap a gift, but a really elegant one, for example for a wedding! It could seem difficult and elaborate, but this is absolutely not what it is!

What I wanted to create was a playful and in the same time elegant gift wrapping based on the colours white  and pink – it is really easy and amazingly fast!

Let’s have a look on what you need:

Gift-Wrapping-Wedding-whatyouneed

White wrapping paper, self-adhesive diamonds, artificial flowers (the ones I used had a clip on the backside), transparent fabric (I used the rest of a curtain), hot-melt gun (to fix the fabric), purple ribbon for the christening gifts – and that’s it!

Gift-Wrapping-Wedding-flowers-diamonds-3

Elegant Wedding gift wrapping – How To:

1: As first step I wrapped all items in simple white paper to cover the packaging.

2: Then I wrapped the boxes with the fabric as described in this tutorial. I used a double layer of the fabric and I even took some more fabric than needed to create crinkles and gathers which I fixed with the hot-melt gun. To hide the glue as well as the knots I used the white roses and some colored flowers – with the clip on the backside this was more than easy!

3: To give a final highlight to the presents I used the self-adhesive diamonds – I had as well diamonds as pearls and I really like the final result!

Gift-Wrapping-Wedding-flowers-diamonds-6

Gift-Wrapping-Wedding-flowers-diamonds-2

Gift-Wrapping-Wedding-flowers-diamonds-4

What do you think? Do you like this idea?

As we have not only been invited for the Wedding but also the Christening of two lovely twin sisters some more presents had to be wrapped! Of course for the babies I wanted a more colorful wrap.

The pink and purple wrapping paper I had was perfect for this, as I could wrap the gifts differently but within the same color scheme! As decoration I simply used the initial letters of their names, which can be used also as decoartion for the nursery!

Gift-Wrapping-Christening-Card-Twins-2

For the third package I chose once more the self-adhesive diamonds, this time pink ones, and a little guardian angel – I really like this straight way of gift wrapping that is as well simple as playful and inventive! A selfmade greeting card … and we have finished!

Gift-Wrapping-Christening-Card-Twins

Gift-Wrapping-Christening-Card-Twins-3

As I told you – it did not take much time to wrap all the gifts, after 1 hour everything was done! Did you recognize that you do not need to have thousands of materials and a lot of time – it is the simple things that make a gift wrap special, and I think the presentee appreciates the love you put in the wrapping!

I hope I could give you an inspiration to create your own elegant gift wrapping – have fun and let creativity flow!

Tanti saluti,

Julia

The most wonderful time of the year … Christmas moved into our home! {Christmas Decoration 2014}

05-1

Ho ho ho…hello to all of you!

Yes, ok … I know … it is nothing new that Christmas is near! Onestly I decorated our home already on the 26th of November as it is the tradition in Germany to do it on the first Sunday of Advent… but the proverb says “better late than never” and so I show you our Christmas decoration right now!

Our whole appartment is quite bright and there is a lot of white everywhere … so also for the Christmas decoration I chose this color together with silver and many natural materials. But of course some highlight in red must not be missed, as this is THE color for Christmas!

To cut a long story short … just enjoy our personal Winter Wonderland! Maybe there is some inspiration for your own decoration?!

Christmas-Winter-Wonderland

Of course some wallart with masking tape is not missing! I did the deer already last year and I still adore it!

Christmas-Decoration-Maskingtape-Wallart

One item I really love are these vintage scales my grandmother had in her kitchen. Thank you so much granny for making me this fabulous gift! Now they are an inherent part of our kitchen and according to the season they change their “outfit”!

Christmas-Decoration-Vintage-Ornaments-Cookies

I was born in Zwickau, a town in the Eastern part of Germany near a mountainous region called “Erzgebirge” – there are a lot of craftsman assembling traditional Christmas decorations such as pyramids, nutcrackers and “smokers”. Of course some of these traditional items moved also into our Italian house!

If there is the German tradition, the Italian one must not be missing! Here we go with our nativity:

Christmas-Decoration-Italian-Nativity
The last part of our Christmas decoration I want to show you is a very special one – the first “Christmas Tree” we had in our appartment! This bonsai olive tree stays with us already for 3 years (may because Daniele is looking after him?!) and I really love its aspect with the ornaments and lights!

Christmas-Decoration-Olive-Ornaments-Alternative-Tree

As we will pass Christmas and New Year’s Eve in Germany we decided not hava a real Christmas Tree this year, but as we have this cute guy and the masking-tape one the wall I do not miss anything!

How did you decorate you home this year? Is it also white or do you prefer bright and shining colors such as red and green?

Tanti saluti and a relaxed 3rd Sunday of  Advent tomorrow,

Julia

Send the spirit of Christmas to your loved ones: DIY Coastal Christmas Cards {FREE DOWNLOAD}

DIY-Coastal-Christmas-Card-by-Calabriansunshine-1

Ho ho ho and buonasera!

Did you already fall under the spirit of Christmas?! Since the evenings are getting really cold (at least for Calabria) and I count the days to go to Germany for the holidays (-5!!! YAY!!) I feel the atmosphere of Christmas! And as always in this period I start thinking of my family and all the friends we have all over the world. Of course it is easy to stay in touch via facebook, whatsapp, emails and so on but during this special time of the year I prefer some more personal greetings and I love designing and hand-writing Christmas cards that can also be used as gift tags!

This year I wanted to do something a little bit unusual so I just took a bag, had a walk around the living room, collected some items of our Christmas decoration and went to….

… THE BEACH! It was a sunny day and the light was great! As it was Sunday there were some persons having a walk along the beach and I think you can immagine their faces when they saw me lying in the sand with all the Christmas stuff!!

I really adore the result of this photoshooting and if you also want to send Christmas greetings to your family and friends and you still need some template just feel free to click on the pictures and download my Christmas cards and delight your loved ones!

You run late?! Relax, here is the fastes DIY Advent Calendar ever!

Buongiorno and hello to all of you!

Around Christmas there is not only the stress to get all presents and to wrap them … the chaos starts even earlier: with the Advent Calendar! I already showed you a lot of inspiration and a DIY Christmas Tree Advent Calendar and today I have the fastest one ever for you … just lean back and relax!

It absolutely is the right thing for everybody who wants a DIY one for his own and also for the whole family – yes, right: you can use this 1 Advent Calendar for more than 1 person and you will even have a great “after-Christmas-gift” after 24th of December!

The only things you need are a pen and 24 Christmas cards or photos with scenes of wintertime and Christmas as well as 24 envelopes. If you are really late just use white paper!

DIY-Advent-Calendar-Last-Minute

I am sure that there will be a lot of things coming to you mind if you think about Christmas, Advent and wintertime … do a little brainstorming and choose 24 words to this topic. It must not be only nouns, it could also be adjectives. If I think about it there are immediately words like these in my mind:

lights, red, ice, snowflake, candles, coziness, winter wonderland, fir sprigs, Christmas tree, nativity, tradition, cookies, Christmas Market, hot, … and there are many many more! If you do not make to 24 just get some inspiration here.

To finish the Calendar write one word on every card, put them in the envelopes and add the numbers from 1-24 to them – mission completed!! Really fast, right?!

And how does it work? Nothing easier than this! Everyday you and/or your loved ones open one envelope and everybody has to take a photo according to the given topic! You can collect the photos in iClound, Dropbox, on the computer or simply get them via mail or whatsapp if somebody lives far away. On 24th of December you can create an awesome collage of all the photos … I think it is great to see how everybody interprets the topics and how the different persons see the Advent time! If you have small children maybe you just explain the topic to them and take a photo together!

Snapshots-of-Advent-Photography-Christmas-Calendar

I really love this idea and I am looking forward to do this with my family this year – happy Advent time to you, enjoy the cozy evenings, long winter walks and a lot of cups of hot chocolate – and of course stay up to date on CalabrianSunshine as there will be an Advent Calendar also here with a lot of Christmas Inspiration!

Tanti saluti,

Julia

Merry Monday {03} – Natural Christmas Decoration

Christmas-Inspiration-Merry-MondayHello hello, buongiorno a tutti!

Today is the last Monday of November, so it is also the last Merry Monday on Calabrian Sunshine. After ideas for Coastal Christmas Decoration and Inspiration for a Black & White Advent today it is time for some more traditional way to decorate: Natural Christmas Decoration!

As we all know Christmas is Jesus, is the Nativity … and everything took place in a small stable between hay, straw and animals! I really like the idea to remember the origins of Christmas using many natural materials to decorate … there is so much stuff around us, just think of pinecones, wood and fir sprigs!

If you like this idea, have fun looking at my collection of natural decoration ideas for Christmas! Let’s start with some gorgeous ideas for Advent wreaths that, even if they are made with traditional material, look very modern!

Natural-Christmas-Decoration-Wreath-Natural-Material

The wooden bundle is from here, the second one with pinecones and stars is from here, the one made of a piece of driftwood you can find here and the amazing and elegant wreath with moss and perls is from here.

The next idea for a natural Christmas Decoration is from themerrythought.com and I just adore it! So easy, so simple, but so full of atmosphere!

Natural-Christmas-Decoration-Natural-Material

There are also great ways to decorate your Christmas Tree in a natural way:

Natural-Christmas-Decoration-Christmas-Tree-Natural-Ornaments

The ornaments with fir sprigs are amazing, aren’t they? I also like the Christmas tree decorated with many wooden elements very much – this idea is from here and the pinecone-ornament from here.

In my opinion white is the best color to combine natural materials and wood as it becomes very elegant in this way! But of course there are so so many ways to decorate in thousands of ways…

Natural-Christmas-Decoration

The branches with the cute stars are from here. The star made of fir sprigs is from here, the wooden Christmas garland from here, the driftwood star from here and the minimalist garland with the golden hearts is from here.

I am really in love with all these great decorations, but the thing I love the most is the incredible smell natural decoration can bring in your house! Immagine the perfume of fresh fir sprigs … and of oranges … speaking of oranges … there is this an old tradition that is very beautiful and that makes your whole home smell like Christmas! Just make a bundle of dried orange slices and cinnamon as ornaments for your Christmas tree (picture from here) or decorate an orange with cloves (picture from here) … this is amazing and really good looking!

Natural-Christmas-Decoration-Smell-of-Christmas-Oranges-Cinnamon-Cloves

As usual you can find all these ideas on my Pinterest-Board … there is also much more inspiration for you!

As this is the last Merry Monday, I would love to know which one of the themes for Christmas decoration is your favorite one?! Would you let me know?!

I wish you an inspiring Merry Monday!

Tanti saluti,

Julia

DIY Advent Calendar – Christmas Tree Tutorial

Hello there, buongiorno a tutti!

December is drawing near and so I took some time during the last days to do an Advent Calendar for us – I told you I cannot live without during Christmas time! First of all I wanted to create kind of a Winter Wonderland with trees and giant snowballs, but then I had another idea: as we will not be at home at Christmas I decided not to have a real Christmas tree this year – so let’s draw the curtain for my DIY Christmas Tree Advent Calendar!

DIY-Advent-Calendar-Christmas-Tree

I seems more complex than it actually is so let’s directly go to the material you need:

DIY-Advent-Calendar-Christmas-Tree-material-what-you-need

The first thing you have to do is to create the structure of the tree. I divided the wooden rod Daniele divided the wooden rod into 5 pieces – one of 100cm which will be the trunk and the other ones as follows: 80cm, 60cm, 40cm and 20cm.
Then just fix the small rods on the trunk, I chose a space of 20cm between the single rods and we fixed each of them with 2 small nails. Afterwards use the spray paint and give a metallic look to your tree. Of course you can also paint it white, red or whatever color you like!

DIY-Advent-Calendar-Christmas-Tree-Structure-paint

No we pass on to the more creative part of the tutorial – the bags and the decoration! I folded 24 bags out of the packing paper (I like the natural color of this material) using the size of A5 for each bag and following the instructions of Nähmarie.

Then I decorated them with little green trees, silver stars, brilliants, snow flakes and so on, added a ribbon and the numbers and … *drum roll* … we are ready! To fix the tree I just put it into a flower pot with walnuts to give some stability and that’s it!

DIY-Advent-Calendar-Christmas-Tree-Walnuts-Flowerpot

Did you already finish this years Advent Calendar? I am so happy about it … but ok, it still has to pass some days in the storage room until the 1st of December, then it will get its place in living room to sweeten our Advent time!

DIY-Advent-Calendar-Christmas-Tree-3

Have a nice Advent time! And for all of you that want a selfmade calendar but with only a little effort just wait some days, I have the fastest Last-Minute-Advent-Calendar for you … stay up to date on the blog!

Tanti saluti,

Julia
